What are the causes of intraspecific variation in locomotor performance? How does maintainance of proper locomotor performance trade off with growth and reproduction? How are different behavioral locomotor strategies maintained in a population; what are the key (physiological) features that allow them to do so; and how does such plasticity manifest itself at the molecular level(i.e. through changes in gene, protein expression, or other pre- post-transcriptional and/or translational modifications)?

What are the key factors driving the design and maintainenance of appropriately performing locomotory systems. What are the processes/factors regulating long and short-term plasticity in the performance of musculo-skeletal systems. How do signals/pathways that convey nutritional status (i.e. energy (reserve) levels) interact with pathways/factors affecting musculo-skeletal performance and composition. What happens when such interactions become impaired (eg. in metabolic disease)?
